An iterative algorithm for indexing spherical shells of the Gosset lattice E8 is described. The proposed approach has a significantly lower computational complexity than the traditional ”Schalkwijk” indexing method. Both methods are described in detail and an analysis of the encoding and decoding complexity is pre- sented. The new indexing method is implemented in the “Gosset Low Complexity Vector Quantizer” (GLCVQ) which is used for super-wideband transform audio coding in Amd. 6 to ITU-T Rec. G.729.1.
