Abstract

This paper discusses algorithms for hands-free voice communication in noisy environments. It is shown that the two essential features of such algorithms, i.e. acoustic echo control and ambient noise reduction, can be combined in a true synergy. The paper outlines a minimum mean square framework to the combined problem and summarizes some of the fundamental issues of algorithm design. It is suggested that a multi-microphone approach might be best suited to achieve the desired performance.
