This paper gives an overview of recent wideband speech (50 Hz-7000 Hz) coding activities. After a short description of the CCITT G.722 standard (48..64 kbit/s) current efforts to reduce the bitrate down to 16 kbit/s are presented. Finally a promising split-band coding scheme is described which is based on sub-bands with unequal bandwidths.
